The Wine Guide: 006 - Can You Feel It?

The good stuff + our summer 2025 spots.

Can you feel it? The heartbeat of summer is starting to pump, pump, pump as temperatures begin to hit triple digits. We’re starting to lean into crisp, crushable New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs by the lake or tantalizing Oregon Pinots over a lengthy dinner with friends. As time inevitably flies by and we all get caught up in work, family, even the constant desire for more, summer is an annual reminder to slow down. Catch the fresh morning air on a walk down to Barton Springs. Let an afternoon happy hour roll into an extended evening.

This isn't a time for hustle, bustle, deadlines, or notions about where you're at in life relative to where you’d like to be. There’s no ticking clock in the back of your head about to go off if your inbox isn’t at zero this afternoon. Log off. Put down. Pour a glass. Society loses something significant when everything is optimized to the fullest. When Whoop recovery scores take precedence over unplanned connection, we lose what makes us human. This summer is an opportunity to get that back. A few months to take back that summertime wonder we once had as kids.

The raw, unfiltered energy of our youth comes flying back into our sights. Maybe it's the longer evenings, maybe it's the hint of forehead sweat that's starting to appear after a quick afternoon stroll. Whatever it may be, it feels damn good. It feels right. Here's to the next few months of doing it at your own pace. We'll see you out there.

Our Summer 2025 Go-To’s:

Quality Seafood Market: No better spot in town. Sit at the bar and stay awhile. Kathy will take care of you.

House Wine: New location on South 1st is worth becoming a regular visit this summer.

Flo's Wine Bar: + allday Pizza. An unbeatable combo.

Bill's Oysters: Our favorite downtown summer happy hour. They also just announced the Po Boy World Tour starting in June…

Justine's: If you think you’ve gone too far, keep going.

Ski Shores: Come on, it’s always summer here.

June's: Get a bottle on the patio and the melt-in-your-mouth chocolate chip cookie, straight from Swedish Hill.

Elephant Room: Incredible spot for late-night jazz.
